Tainan Station is a first-class station on the Taiwan Railways Corporation's Longitudinal Line and the westernmost station on the route. Currently, a project is underway to make Tainan's urban railway underground, and the old station will be renovated and preserved as a cultural asset, modeled after the Kaohsiung model. Tainan Station is one of the few stations in Taiwan built within the old city limits of the Qing Dynasty. When the railway opened in 1900 during the Japanese colonial period, it entered the city through Dabei Gate, with a station located northeast of the downtown area. It then exited the city through Xiaonan Gate. Following urban reforms, the area became the intersection of Beimen Town 2-chome (now Beimen Road Section 2 and Fubei Street), Meiji Town 1-chome (now Chenggong Road), Dazheng Town 3-chome (now Zhongshan Road), and Shou Town 1-chome (now Beimen Road Section 1), forming the streetscape in front of the station today. The station has become a key transportation hub in Tainan. After World War II, the station became the center of Tainan City, with shopping malls, department stores, and hotels lining the area. The Tainan Museum of Art is the only museum in Taiwan dedicated to scientific research, painting restoration, and administrative functions. Its interior includes a multi-purpose theater, a children's art center, artist studios, and an art science research center.
