Cityframes GRAND Taichung City, Taiwan transforms the architecture, roads, and streetscapes of Taichung City into a large-scale 3D printed city model. The 129 × 79 cm wide format clearly unfolds the relationship between orderly streetscapes, dense buildings, and urban spaces; it can be wall-mounted in living rooms, studies, offices, and reception areas, or laid flat on a display platform, becoming a Taichung cityscape that can be viewed for extended periods.
The GRAND version of Taichung City's urban data, created using the CitySculpt process, combines satellite 3D data, spatial data, and manual refinement to reorganize building locations and identify details. Taichung's urban outline is not only derived from building heights but also from the wide roads, street scale, and the urban structure formed by the overlap of different development stages; the scaled-down 3D model preserves these relationships, transforming the familiar city from an everyday perspective into a design object that can be viewed in its entirety.
Taichung GRAND pieces are made from a biodegradable material with a corn base. The soft, frosty white surface has a delicate, plaster-like texture, allowing rooftops, roads, and building heights to naturally emerge through the interplay of light and shadow. The pieces can be wall-mounted horizontally or vertically, or displayed flat. Each piece is made to order and is engraved with a unique number, production month, and signature. They preserve memories of living, travel experiences, and observations of Taichung's urban development within residential, commercial, and public spaces.
