Cityframes GRAND Taipei, Taiwan, transforms the architectural layout, streetscapes, and skyline of downtown Taipei into a large-scale 3D printed city model. The model uses the same urban data as the existing Frame Wide Taipei version and is re-printed at the largest size in the GRAND series; the wide 129 × 79 cm composition allows Taipei's dense and multi-layered urban textures to be fully displayed. The artwork can be wall-mounted in living rooms, studies, offices, and reception areas, or laid flat on a display platform, becoming a clear and scaled representation of Taipei's cityscape within the space.
The GRAND version of Taipei City uses iconic architectural silhouettes such as Taipei 101 to connect the surrounding neighborhoods with the city center's urban structure. Using Cityframes' proprietary CitySculpt process, combined with satellite 3D data, spatial data, and manual refinement, the location and details of each building are meticulously organized. Enlarging to GRAND size makes road directions, building heights, and neighborhood density easier to view, transforming familiar Taipei from an everyday city into a quiet and precise three-dimensional design object.
Taipei GRAND is crafted from a biodegradable material based on corn kernels. Its soft, frosty white surface possesses a delicate, plaster-like texture, allowing the silhouettes of buildings and streets to naturally emerge amidst the interplay of light and shadow. The pieces can be wall-mounted horizontally or vertically, or displayed flat. Each piece is made to order and is engraved with a unique number, the month of production, and a signature. It's more than just a miniature model of Taipei; it preserves memories of living there, travel experiences, and observations of the city within everyday spaces.
